Tremont House
Built in 1859, the Tremont House was originally called the Temperance Hotel. The hotel was at its finest in the 1860’s. It survived a fire in 1863 that destroyed much of the East Denver commercial district and the flood of 1864. The original wood frame structure was replaced by a three-story brick building between 1865 and 1870’s and was consider one of the best hotels in Denver. On July 14, 1912, floodwaters raged down the Cherry Creek and devastated West Denver. The Tremont House was one of 50 buildings that were ordered condemned by building inspectors and was demolished. The book Denver: An Archeological History by Sarah M. Nelson documents an archeological dig at the Tremont House.
