What happened to the old Creating Communities?
The new Creating Your Community website has replaced the Creating Communities website. But have no fear all of the content from the previous website has been integrated into the new website and the DPL Digital Collections.

What is Creating Your Community all about?
Creating Your Community is a social archive that provides a way for you to share, create and explore photos and stories about Colorado online. Images will also be considered to be contributed to the DPL Digital Collections.

Browse away by checking out the Communities page. All our communities can be browsed by subject or by an alphabetical list.

How do I sign up and create a profile?
Sign up here!

How do you use my personal information?

How do I join a community?
Once you are on a community page you will see an image on the right that says “Click here to join this community and begin contributing content” or look at the top of the page for the Join button. Click it and you are now a community member.

Do I have to sign up to join or create a community?
Yes you must sign up and create a user profile before joining or creating a community.

How do I create a community?
Create a Community here! You can also find the link to create a community from the Community main page.

What types of communities can I create?
You can create any type of Colorado related community you want. The list of subjects on the Community page is a good place to start to get ideas.

What kinds of things can I contribute to the CYC archive?
You can upload images and stories to the website. Currently you can contribute up to a 32 MB file in PNG, JPEG and GIF formats for images.

How do I upload an image to a community?
Click on the "Upload a Photo" icon on a community page.

I read on the website that my photos may also be included in the DPL Digital Collections. What does this mean exactly?
In addition to being able to post materials to the CYC website, we can add material to our DPL Digital Collections. See Terms and Conditions for more information.

How do I add a story to a community?And what can I write about?
Click on the "Write a Story" icon on a community page. Stories can be anything you would like to share with the community like memories, research or more information about the image you uploaded.

Can I comment on a photo or story?
Yes, you can comment on a story or image page by finding the “Post a Comment” section. Or if you are in the Individual Community Posts/Members section you can click “Add a comment.”

How do I vote for a photo or story?
To vote to “Like” a photo or story click on the Like button on a story or image page.

How do I find images in the Digital Collections and post them to my community?
Click on the "Link" icon on the community page. You must be a community member to search and post images to a community.

Is the Denver Public Library monitoring the website?
In the spirit of being a open archive, the CYC website will rely on users to moderate content. Users can flag content for offensive or inappropriate content to alert the Denver Public Library staff to problems. Please see the Community Guidelines for more information.

Where can I find the Assessor Records now?
The Assessor records are available here!

Where is the map of historic buildings now?
Right here!

How do I see a list of all of the communities I have joined?
First make sure you are logged into CYC. Then check out the “My Communities” list on the main Community Page. You can also look at your profile under “Account Settings” and view profile to see a list of your communities.

What about copyright? Who owns the photos and stories I post on the website?

You are in luck! The Denver Public Library will be having Scanning Sundays in 2012. Check out the Events page for more information.
