Hoffman Heights was designed and constructed from 1950-1954 by Sam Hoffman. This development was created as a complete community with areas designed for a school, library, park, churches, shopping, and fire station. It was annexed into the city of Aurora in 1956. The Fields and Tollgate Creek - East of Hoffman Heights

During the 1950's, my family lived at the east end of Hoffman Heights at 1150 Yuba Street; and as a kid during the summer months, I remember crossing the railroad tracks and going through the vast fields to the east where we descended down to Tollgate Creek to catch minnows, frogs, and crawdads (crayfish). Most of the creek's path had 6-foot mud wall, and we (I had two brothers) often found pieces of petrified wood along the banks.  Read more »
