Description: Jenny Santos talks about experiences of Mexican immigrants in Denver during the 1980’s, namely their fear of deportation. She describes life in Globeville including: the feeling of community and family, the impact of development on the residents, the activities of children in the area, Street Kids program, the lack of funding to provide infrastructure, community events, Globeville recreation center, impact of Interstate-70 on the residents, resident health issues and insurance, possible ASARCO contamination, and her community activism. She also discusses in great detail what she sees as the future of the area and the needs for a cultural shift and for future generations to become more active in the community.

Description: In the interview, Betty Wonder discusses the culture of the neighborhood, section 8 housing, the impact of Interstate-70 on the community, the possible contamination of the neighborhood and its sources, and the consequential health issues of the residents. She talks in depth about her family’s homes being taken during the initial Interstate-70 construction, her current home being taken with the proposed reconstruction, her possible relocation, Habitat for Humanity. She recalls visiting the Stock Show, circuses, and other shows during her childhood. She also discusses her involvement in the neighborhood watch program, other civic associations, employment history, current family members, old friends from the neighborhood, and old hang outs. She remembers the territory disputes between the youth of Elyria, Swansea, and Globeville, the boxing tradition of the area, former resident and professional boxer Max Baer, childhood pranks of her uncles and grandfathers, as well as the cultural tensions between different ethnic groups.

Description: In this interview David Oletski describes Globeville both past and present, the lack of city resources and recreation centers, need of neighborhood repairs, junk yard contamination and commercial pollution. He also discusses improvements and changes that are coming to area including a RTD station and National Western Stock Show, Platforms Open Space, Section 8 housing, and the 2013 Habitat for Humanity project to repair twenty-six homes in the neighborhood. He also discusses the flood of 1965, John F. Kennedy’s visit to Globeville, the importance of industry to the neighborhood, and its future. He voices his concerns over the I-70 reconstruction, CDOT, public meetings and impact studies, the creation of the Valley Highway in the 1960s, ASARCO contamination, the land clean-up, litigation, and the City’s involvement.
