Colorado Black Hall of Fame

Blacks in Colorado Hall of Fame honors new inductees every other year. Juanita Gray helped start this tradition in 1973. Members of the Hall of Fame are Colorado residents who are the first in their field to make history and have had a major impact on the African American Community.

The ceremony presenting these awards is traditionally held at the Ford-Warren Branch Library, where Mrs. Gray worked for many years. In 2012 the ceremony was held on February 10th at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood.

Juanita Gray- A Denver Public Library Hero!

Mrs. Gray worked tirelessly on behalf of the Denver Public Library community. She was a trailblazer and longtime civic leader who established a comprehensive outreach program between the Library and the African American community. Mrs. Gray was affectionately known as the “Pied Piper” for the Library. She sang the praises of the Library in every arena that she visited. Although she worked to bridge the gap between the Library and the African American community, her work helped to make the Library inviting to all communities.
